Ansell Place Underpass

The Ansell Place underpass was expanded from two lanes to four as part of the improvements between Sunset Beach and Lions Bay between May 2004 and December 2005. Work began with material excavation for the two northbound lanes, followed by extension of the north-side bridge and median barrier installation, while traffic detoured via the on-and off-ramps. Construction progressed so well that the new highway section was ready for traffic 18 months ahead of schedule

Evolution of the Middle Creek Bridge

The Middle Creek Bridge will be part of the new Furry Creek northbound crossing. The method of construction includes a number of techniques seen throughout the Sea-to-Sky Highway Improvement Project. The riparian area of the creek is protected by silt fencing, and the bridge abutment walls are of mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) construction. Plastic drop sheets are used to keep wet concrete drippings away from the stream. In the last photo, crews are preparing the finished bridge deck for paving.
